Council members and mayors across the South Fraser are now calling into question the new task force to discuss a possible light rail demonstration project. Mayor Rick Green, along with reconstituted VALTAC/Heritage Rail members Roy Mufford, Lee Lockwood and Peter Holt did a horse and pony show before city councils from Surrey to Chilliwack. It was started that TransLink and several municipalities were on board with the idea. At Langley City Council they were read a list of communities that were identified as on board. Indeed we suggested that Green had done a good job here on the Langley Record.
Several mayors and council members from the region have now contacted our Editorial Board members to say they are very unhappy with what they felt was deceptive remarks made in their respective council meeting by this group. Even TransLink CEO Tom Prendergast has told Mayor Green and the group to stop using the TransLink logo in their presentations.
It is also interesting to note that Mayor Green in responding to the TransLink CEO used a Township letterhead that lists members of Council at the top. But after taking office, Green had replaced this type of letterhead with one that had his name only, along with a photograph of the mayor. So, it begs the question if Mayor Green selects letterhead based on who he is writing to and whether he wants to suggest that Council is behind him? It all seems very fishy.

Is Tricky Ricky embarking yet upon another relentless but foolhardy scheme to further his relentless but failing leadership prowess attempts? Forming yet another election supporters' committee with the same crew he had standing before the ALC when bashing the $51M overpass? Ricky's embellishing persona is going to get him into trouble yet, but what the hell, it couldn't happen to a better person.
mr. editor. could you please help me out? i did not see roy mufford. lee lockwood. or peter holt on the ballot at the last election did i miss something? could this be a ploy to get more mufford property out of the alr? it seems that farmland cannot be used for overpass but maybe o k for light rail station. i say if these boys want light rail i have absolutely no objection if they use their own money.township taxpayers have no excess funds to start a railroad that has no ridership. the light rail line goes through mostly farmland .cows fly seldom ride on trains.
Here we go again. I think this is the second time he has quoted Translink's support for a project and they have held him out to dry. First, Ms. Plewes and his error ridden interpretation of her comments on the Mufford Overpass (please get it done now!) and now Mr. Pendergast's comments. I guess his affliction with getting the last train to Milner is more important than being honest and accurate. Will the media report this faux-paux? Not likely but soldier on Council members, 2 years left.
Come on folks....this is not light rail or anything close to it and don't get confused. This is simply big boys playing with antique toys. Light rail is a sophisticated modern transportation tool to move masses of people between densely populated areas in the region. This project is bogus, simply put an antique train on old track moving from somewhere to nowhere. Get real do you really think beyond any reason of a doubt that this is the answer we need. NOT AT ALL. This is the Roy, Lee and Peter show with tricky Ricky dancing while the other three play the fiddle.
I sure hope Translink, M. O. T. and the many others pay no credence to this proposal and get serious about actually providing real light rail to the Valley how and where it is needed.
