The Township's annual Budget Open House will take place March 1st & 2nd. You can download the Budget highlights and Response form directly from this ToL site here.
Our Editorial Board has reviewed this year's budget in-depth and after one sets aside all of the statutory requirements, there is approximately $200K in discretionary spending. Despite what some politicians might say, this is the fact of the matter! If there was a way to do more, those people proposing it would be elected forever. There is no magic bullet folks despite all the political rhetoric.
So, what part of the $200K do you wish to cut? The choices are things like closing the museum in Fort Langley during certain seasons, abolishing Rivers Day (really a week at $40K), axing the volunteer appreciation dinners like those for firefighters and a host of other related things this community holds as important.
This is an open thread, so let's hear your ideas !

Unbelievable! The Mayor misses the last two Council Budget meetings (how truly committed is this goof?). Then he has his buddies, Robert Moats, Jim Findlay (who is this phantom)and others write the papers to say all Council should listen to him - HE ISN'T EVEN IN ATTENDANCE FOLKS TO BE HEARD! How bizzare is that.
This Conncil tries to make some suggested Budget cuts (good work folks that were there!), without him in attendanc. Now his crony supporters(Bays Blackall etc.) write and say Council can't cut the Museum hours and days of operation, the community needs them.
What is it Mayor GREEN, tell us what you truly want and don't be a hypoctite. You are very good at saying one thing because you think it sounds good but you can't back it up with facts or constructive action.
It is time to step up to the plate and really tell me as a taxpayer WHAT YOU WOULD CUT! BE BRAVE NOT A WIMP BIG FELLA!
Get on with it. I see that the % increase will drop once the full-time firefighter issue has been put to rest. Well done to the Council of the day (exclusive of the present Mayor - I am disgusted he wouldn't even attend Budget discussions).
volunteer apprecitation cuts would be absolutely one of the wrong cuts....just take a look at fire dept cost. this cost will esculate faster than any other bidget expenses. any volunteer orgination saves far in excess of cost of appreciation.
I popped in to the Budget Openhouse tonight. No sign of Robert Moats, Jim Findlay, the public members of the Finance Committee (oh they resigned) or any of the other members of the Mayors band of boo birds. This is interesting stuff especially when the Museum folks are so upset at a suggestion that they get less - hum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see the Museumn folks got to Green on the weekend and he is now supporting their request to reinstate the dollars. He even went further as to give them hope for a new museum. Come on! This is bogus beyond belief. Council makes suggestions to cut costs (I think that is listening to the mayor) and he jsut plays fiddle to the crowd and backs down. His 0/0/0. was nothing more than an election ploy and had no depth or thought. Now to even give them hope of a new museum (today's Advance)is well and truly a farce. How can he proport ot spending further and making promises like this. He of all people adding further debt load to the taxpayer. Unbelievably absurd Mr. Mayor - you truly do say one thing and do another.
WE NEED TO APPRECIATE THE SERVICES WE RECEIVE IN THE TOWNSHIP.I POPPED INTO THE BUDGET DISPLAY ALSO .STAFF MADE GREAT EFFORT TO MAKE INFORMATIVE DISPLAY.TOTALLY SURPRISED AT LACK OF CITIZENS.MAYBE IF MORE PEOPLE ACTULLAY CAME OUT AND STUDIED THE EFFORTS OF STAFF THERE WOULD LESS COMPLANING AND MORE COOPERATION.IT TAKES MORE THAN TEN MINUTES AT AN OPEN HOUSE TO BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND THE COMPLEXITIES OF PREPARING A BUDGET FOR VARING DEPARTMENTS. IF PEOPLE ARE CONTINUALLY ASKING FOR MORE SERVICES FASTER FIRE SERVICE FASTER AMBULANCE SERVICES MORE PARKS ETC. THERE WILL BE A COST.
Will be interestign to see what Green does, will the discussiont ake place on the 15th of March does anyone know? I want to be there to see this guy weep in his cornflakes when he has no ideas to reduce costs.
