We are talking about two very young girls here and it is 100% heartless to take a run at these children and their Dad, Councillor Jordan Bateman for attending a community event on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. It is interesting to note that Councillor Kim Richter did not attend Arbour Day, and skips out on many community events. For Kim Richter to allow this comments about Bateman's children on her blog is a huge indicator of the character (or lack thereof) of Richter and yet another reason why she cannot fill the position of mayor.

You know it was so quiet and nice when the Richters were out of town, costing the taxpayers of Langley dollars out of their pocket so they could enjoy a trip to San Diego. Now they are back they allow this rehetoric on their blog, only confirming they are truly the root cause of the caustic environment that exisits in the Township these days. This is well beyond comprehension for the normal citizen of this fine community and it shows just the reason Frank B. hates blogs. I truly think they should be ashamed and apologize once again to the individuals involved ( one is 2 and the other 5) and the community as a whole and if they can't maintain a quality standard of commenting - SHUT THE DAMN BOG DO.
I see that Horny Toad Fred doesn't look at the local newspapers. If he did some reading he would have seen the photo and read where Green, Fox, Ward, Bateman and Kositsky had all attended Arbour Day and planted the ToL tree. Ferguson joined them after the photo and ceremony.
Beside Bateman's family they are now attacking Ferguson. Everyone that really knows Steve Ferguson knows that he is one great Dad. He spends much time and energy into keeping his kids involved in sport and community activities. His family is very active and Steve and his wife take their family responsibilities very seriously. Since when does this equate to a PR campaign or self-promotion?
These people aren't just being rude, they have deep-rooted mental health issues. I saw this gang at the overpass meetings. They have very sour faces all the time and they look like they suffer from severe clinic depression. I know because I am a mental health professional and I can see the warning signs in their faces and writings. They should really seek professional help for their illness and some antidepressants may turn their lives around in a big way. It's shameful that their illness causes others to put some credibility to these folks.
How would Richter like it if we started chatting about her kids on a blog. I have lots of stories I could share. A good family friend has a child who works at a certain eating establishment in Aldergrove and I could fill several pages of juicy stories from a reliable source.......how about it Kim?
Or about that Township fire jacket that was worn in disgrace and caused a certain someone to get some heat from a fire fighter before daddy Bob called to bitch them out?
Or that a certain property owned by a certain someone has a assessed value of $647 000.
While I appreciate your kind words and support, I do truly believe that it should be off-limits for people to talk about the children of public officials. We can debate politics and policy without resorting to that kind of gutter activity.
It's unfortunate that my council colleague has chosen to allow certain comments on her website, but if she chooses to engage in such personal attacks there's not much I can do. She has to deal with her own conscience at the end of the day.
I would ask those of you who have respect for me and/or my public office as a councillor to refrain from mentioning things about my kids. I also ask you extend the same favour to Councillor Richter.
Whether you feel she deserves such respect or not, her children are not public figures and should be off-limits.

Nice to see you are reading here, as we've not seen you since the inaugural. We appreciate your comments and have no concluded a straw poll of our Editorial Board.
We have agreed that children of public officials should not be drawn into these discussions. Of course spouses that help write blogs and such are fair game. In the interest of doing the right thing, The Langley Record is willing to remove comments about the children of you and Cllr. Richter if she also removes the offensive posts on her blog. Let's see if Cllr. Richter can take the high road?
Richter take the high road - yes right out of town and spare us the anguish of listening to her any more. She can take her husband and kids too!
I think Bateman's comment is reason #732 that he ------>will<------ be mayor some day. Takes the high road every time. Shame on Big Bob and Kooky Kimmy for their comments.
